Prizefighter was one of the first clone selections made by Voyager Genetics- a combination of classics OG Kush x Gelato 33. The idea for selecting from this cross was that OG Kush starting to go extinct in the commercial space. OG can be susceptible to longer flowering times, sensitivity to heat and typically not super high testing results, so a lot of commercial cultivators have stopped growing it. So we set out to try to capture the smoking experience and aroma profile of OG, but make it stronger and easier to grow. This is how Prizefighter was born, and it has since become a favorite in Medical Markets in Portugal and Thailand, with consumers in UK and Germany gaining access very soon. Prizefighter packs a punch, but has one of the most timeless aromas that easily make it a favorite you go back to again and again.

Agronomic Data and Phenotyping Results

Prizefighter is a very tall and stretchy plant, which is best for growers that have significant ceiling/light height and appreciate high stretch cultivars with their grow style. Prizefighter has excelled indoors, and is tolerant of very high light levels exceeding 1,000 ppfd. It is also extremely responsive to crop-steering, and will bulk up in response to vegetative irrigation during the middle weeks. This makes it a great candidate for cultivators with a high-input strategy (high-light, high-EC, precision irrigation). Trials in greenhouses have been hit and miss- Prizefighter can sometimes create small round buds if light levels are insufficient, but greenhouse cultivators who can achieve sufficient DLI report getting high THC, good quality and excellent aroma regardless.

It has shown good resistance to botrytis and powdery mildew, and isn’t a strong insect attractor.

Experience and Flavor

This cultivar was partially named because it is quite powerful and has the ability to “knock you out”! The experience can vary quite a bit depending on harvest time, but this has become a favorite where it is available, mostly because of its classic flavor- it is a great combination of gelato aroma and OG creaminess that really translates well to flavor.
